WT Lite
Alyxa the Kitsune (who you might remember from our Sonic2sMonth episodes) joined Squidge to discuss Metal Gear Solid, how it can’t possibly be Metal Gear (again!), and trying to decipher Mei Ling’s Chinese sayings.

Show Notes
Alyxa returned!
Well, she’d have to because her and Squidge weren’t finished with their conversation on Metal Gear Solid 2 in our last episode.
Squidge:Waffling Taylor’s Lite: the pocket size podcast that packs a gaming punch.
In this serving of byte sized banter with a side of gaming goodness. We catch up with Alyxa the Kitsune (codename: Glitter Fox) about Metal Gear Solid 2. We cover everything from Easter eggs streaming mishaps to codec hijackings.
So without further ado, sit back, grab some snacks, and get ready for this episode entitled: "Metal Gear Solid 2 Part 2 - A What Vampire!?"
Take it away, guys
Sock Puppets!
Squidge wasted no time in getting to the good (read: “absurd”) stuff by asking:
Squidge:If you could take three characters from the combined universe of Metal Gear Solid One and Two and re-enact a scene of metal Gear Solid Two using sock puppets, who would play who and how long before you start burst out laughing?
It’s probably for the best that you listen to Alyxa’s answer, because it’s almost as absurd as Squidge’s question and includes a very deep cut back to Alyxa’s appearance in WT Lite - Metal Gear Solid with Alyxa the Kitsune - aka episode 173.
Squidge also wanted to answer this question, and his answer is as silly, too. How would you answer this question?
Metal Gear - The Pop Group!?
Squidge:You are tasked to form a pop group of four people from a list of characters from Metal Gear Solid, two, who is in it, and what is their first breakout song called. And a band name, if you’ve got one.
Alyxa and Squidge kept talking about this question way after the recording ended, and Delilah had to get involved during the edit:
Delilah:Later discussion revealed that Alyxa would have called the band "Brothers In Arms"
Alyxa:Solid Snake, Solidus, Raiden. And their breakout song, or their debut song, would be "broken bonds".
… It’s broken bonds. Because what do these four characters have in common?
It’s because of the whole thing with Solidus being Raiden’s adopted father, Ocelot supposedly having Liquids arm. Then you have Solid and Solidus. It’s a broken part of a family.
Squidge answered this one, too. And his choices are bonkers.
Bosses are what we live for!
Squidge:In Metal Gear Solid Two, players encounter a variety of purely bizarre boss battles… if you could create your own absurd boss battle encounter for that game, what would it be and how would players defeat it?.
Alyxa:So you know how the game is set in a very big body of water… How come there is not a single boss battle against something from water?
…
Why don’t we have a single boss fight on the water? And that one where Vamp is, like, holding Emma hostage does not count. That does not count.
I thought something along the lines of either a robotic dolphin or something ridiculous, like some sort of robotic kraken or something. It had to be something that comes from the water. It makes sense. You’re in a game that is filled with water. Why is there not a boss fight against something that’s. That comes from the water?
Easter Eggs
Everyone loves a hidden reference to something else, and what with the Metal Gear games being one giant Easter Egg for all of the pop culture that Hideo Kojima has ever consumed, Squidge wanted to talk with Alyxa about that ones that can be found in Metal Gear Solid 2.
But of course, no conversation on Easter Eggs in Metal Gear Solid 2 is complete without discussing the “artful” posters found within the Tank section. And speaking of that, there’s the “Snake Beater” achievement. The less said about that one, the better.
And the toilet humour in Metal Gear Solid 2 didn’t end there. Over in the Plant section, Raiden can slip in bird poop, be pooped on by another bird, and even have someone urinate on him while he’s hanging from a ledge.
Squidge brought a list of them:
Squidge:On the roof after you’re pooped on by seagulls—or if you slip on seagull poop—if you get out a gun and start shooting the seagulls, Rose will contact you and berate you for shooting the seagulls.
In the strut where you bump into Peter Stillman, where … he talks about the bombs. There [are] two bathrooms there. If you go to the male bathroom and stand by urinal and you call. You’ve got to call Campbell. Campbell will say to Rose, "lcan you stop recording for a minute? Raiden’s erm…"
…
Then I found out there’s a version where you’re going to the women’s bathroom and they call you, but you’ve got to be pervy. And what I mean by that is you go into a women’s bathroom stall, get out the "book," and I think you have to crouch down. You get a codec call from Campbell, who says, "you are hands down disgusting." Rose has a go at you saying, "people are putting themselves out to try and back you up on this mission and you’re doing this?" And then she says the best line ever. She says, "at least have a picture of me while you do that."
There are quite a few others that Squidge brough up, too. But you’ll have to listen to the episode to hear them all.
And Vamp was in the background of the ending cutscene!?
Chronology
The final thing that Alyxa and Squidge discussed was the chronology for the Metal Gear games. The timeline for the games that they came up with was:
- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
- Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
- Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
- Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
- Metal Gear
- Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
- Metal Gear Solid
- Metal Gear Solid 2
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
But everyone agrees that, as with any game series, you should play them in release order. Otherwise you’ll miss a lot of the back and forth, and the references and callbacks.
And speaking of “release order versus canon order” and Kingdom Hearts, did you all see GamerChamp3000’s “The Actual, True Kingdom Hearts Play Order” video?
