Content Warning
There are a few bleeped out words in this episode, but not many. Mostly they were context appropriate and instances of things like “butt” or “crap”. Keep an ear open for them, if you’re listening with little ones.
There’s also a discussion on Plague Inc., in which we talk about all kinds of different diseases that you can engineer in the game.
Show Notes
I’ve decided that I want to buy a Nintendo Switch
ding
but didn’t really know what to get for it. But because I know that Squidge, The B, and Unaffiliated JZ have one each, I turned to them
for a little advice. Because I knew that the advice would be so great, I wanted to ask Squidge for his advice on an episode of the show. And I really do think that it’s turned out great!
Squidge had the great idea of putting a coin-up sound in every time that either of us mentioned the Nintendo console that could
see if you can keep count of them all
and so you’ll notice that happening throughout the episode.
something to note: this is Squidge’s first attempt at editing the podcast. I honestly think that he’s done an amazing job, and am looking forward to what the edit for next week’s show sounds like, too
Squidge here, quite Jay. Don’t give all the secrets away!
One thing that we didn’t bring up in the episode, is that we’re we’re going to EGX this year. We’ve mentioned this in show notes for the past few episodes, but this is quite a big thing for me. it’ll be the first video game expo that we’ll be attending
it’s not my first expo or conference, as I’ve been to a few about programming
I’ve even given talks at them, too
it’ll also be Squidge’s first big expo, so I’m quite excited for him.
By the time this episode goes out, we’ll be a few days away from the Leeds Retro Games fair, too. We’ve written about attending them in the past, and we’ve even had the organiser (Steve Smith) on the podcast. If you’re going to be there, let us know
leave a comment below, send us a tweet, or get in touch via Facebook
as we might have some swag to give away
we’re also going to be asking people if they’d like to record something with us for the pod, too
Here’s why I’m looking for a Switch:
ding
- Everyone that I know seems to have one
- The games which are coming out for them look quite good
- I’m looking for something to do on my commutes to my current contract
- Which are about 90 minutes either way
And Squidge used these points, along with the types of games that I like to play, to come up with a list of games for the Switch
ding
that he would recommend I buy.
Fair warning: this episode contains spoilers for Resident Evil: Revelations 2, You have been warned. Then again, it came out in 2015.
Squidge’s Suggestions
- Doom
- NES and SNES Classics
- Resident Evil: Revelations 2
- Plague Inc.
- Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
- Yoshi’s Crafted World
we incorrectly call this Yoshi’s Wooly World
also, I couldn’t find a link to the description of a wahooney
but it’s from Discworld, and I use it in context in the episode
- Final Fantasy VIII
- Hyrule Warriors
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- Sega Classics
there isn’t a single game with them all in, though
Bonus Suggestions
- Unaffiliated JZ suggested Slay the Spire
- Which looks like a cool mixture of rogue-like’s and card games.
- The_B recommended Persona 5 S
Squidge’s Honourable Mention
- Warriors Orochi 4
- ’nuff said
- Chief calls this (and games like it) a “smashy” game
Site News
Squidge is working on new blog posts. In fact, by the time this episode goes out
as in, while you’re reading this
his post on the Diablo will be out, so definitely give that a read.
Also, Squidge is now an editor of the show. For those who didn’t know, I was the editor for podcast episodes until recently. And, as you can tell
since you’ve clearly listened to the episode
Squidge is quite a good audio editor, too.
